Kajin-jinja Shrine is a shrine located in Koryo, Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture. Its former rank was prefectural shrine. It is commonly called "Kajin-san." "Why a sea shrine in the mountains?" According to Chief Priest Hideshige Yamada, "We have been enshrining the sea gods, Toyotamahiko-no-Mikoto and Kunitsuhime-no-Mikoto, who came from Tategasaki in Kumano, since the early Heian period. Inbe no Sukune, who presided over the rituals of the Yamato Imperial Court, received a divine message and founded the shrine here." The exact founding date is unknown, but it is said that Inbe no Sukune founded the shrine in the reign of Emperor Suinin, based on a divine message, with Toyotamahiko-no-Mikoto and Kunitsuhime-no-Mikoto as the main deities. It is a well-known shrine in the prefecture, listed in authoritative books such as the Engishiki register, the Sandai Jitsuroku, the Hongoku Jinmyocho, the Nanki Jinja Roku, the Kii no Kuni Meisho Zue, and the Kii Zoku Fudoki. This offering is a set of two items: a goshuin (red seal stamp) and a history booklet. The goshuin bag will be folded to a suitable size. From ancient times, the shrine was highly revered by the Imperial Court and appears to have owned a large amount of sacred land. The place where the shrine is located is called "Koryo," and as the name suggests, it was the shrine's territory. In 1585, during the Kishu subjugation by Hashiba Hideyoshi, the main hall (two buildings), the worship hall, the kagura hall, and the treasure house were all destroyed by fire, and treasures and old records were also lost.
