It's made of denim and a striped pattern, so it can be used by both men and women! I myself have used a review book, and (This is my personal opinion!) - I was a little annoyed by the fasteners bumping when the book was open - I carried a lot of pens and sticky notes, so I didn't use the pockets and instead used a large pouch - I didn't have any problems without fasteners etc., I had some things that I found stressful. (This is my personal opinion!!) Therefore, I have deliberately not included pockets or fasteners. It's simply a cover and a handle.
