Moonstone is a type of mineral belonging to the feldspar group. Stones in the feldspar group include labradorite, sunstone, and amazonite, and they are so diverse that they don't seem to be from the same family. Moonstone is mainly orthoclase and includes albite. The layers of these two types of feldspar overlap, causing internal reflection and interference of light, resulting in a fantastic optical effect called "schiller."
