The design has long been used on weaponry and furnishings. The shape of the leaves resembles the arrowhead of an arrow, and it is also called "Kachigusa" (Winning Grass). It seems to have been a favored motif of samurai since the Genpei era. The plant grows as a weed in rice paddies and other places, and its refreshing appearance evokes the image of summer aquatic plants. It has small white flowers, and it's a plant that I also like. This piece is a very refreshing and cool-looking vessel that depicts the omotaka on both the front and the inside with a light touch. It might be nice to serve something in it when summer comes.
